Playlist curated by Paul Sadot
For the Jun / July edition, we invited movement director Paul Sadot to curate the Montana playlist.
Working internationally for nearly two decades, Paul has collaborated with Gucci, Kenzo, Dior, Christian Louboutin, Coach, and Nike, alongside photographers and directors including Elaine Constantine, Glen Luchford, Angelo Pennetta, Charlotte Wales, and Samuel Bradley.
Paul’s selection immediately felt like an extension of rehearsal space or dramaturgical thinking. Travelling through the playlist is like moving across geological layers of time and memory, where moments of stillness sit beside unexpected shifts in rhythm. There is a real density to it. And the inclusion of Hugo Montenegro instantly brought back memories for us, a reminder of how music can collapse time.
“The playlist gives a glimpse into my creative process, wherein I’m constantly seeking to explore and disrupt old habits... What new energies and movements might occur? I am always searching for another space, a space where we might catch a glimpse of the Other.” — Paul Sadot
Drawing on theatre practitioner Eugenio Barba’s notion of “the deep order of turbulence”, Paul describes the playlist as a reflection of a creative process that embraces friction, disruption, and the search for new forms of movement and perception.
As Paul notes, Barba compares the creative process to "a sailing boat that wants to go west, while the wind is blowing from the south and the currents are carrying it towards the east." It is the equilibrium between these opposing forces, he says, that becomes the creative route.
